On the morning of January 28th, students from the McGlynn Elementary School in Medford, Massachusetts celebrated the commissioning of their Northwind 100 turbine. The 4th, 5th and 6th graders read essays about renewable energy and wind power while the Mayor, various Massachusetts legislatures and councilmen, and an excited community looked on. The Northwind 100 turbine can be seen from the highway with the Boston skyline as a backdrop and Mayor McGlynn hopes that it will serve as a symbol of Medford's commitment to the environment. The school anticipates to save $25,000 in utility costs a year and is equally as excited about the experiential learning opportunities that the turbine will offer to science, math, and social studies classes.
