The southwestern winds that prevail from the Atlantic give Ireland its temperate climate and increasingly, its energy. With a goal to have 16% of Ireland’s energy coming from renewable sources by 2020, harnessing its strong wind resources are an important focus. The government has responded to this aggressive timeline by easing permitting and grid connection procedures for small and mid sized wind projects.
The current scheme in operation in the Republic of Ireland for the support of wind energy is REFIT, the Renewable Energy Feed-in-Tariff. This scheme provides a guaranteed reference price for renewable energy for the suppliers with an additional payment of 15 % of the reference price. The full details of the scheme can be viewed here.
The adoption of wind energy projects cannot be relegated to wind farms alone. Private businesses, schools, hospitals and farms can also participate in the wind energy revolution with the community friendly design of the Northern Power 60 and 100 kW turbines. Both Northern Power turbine models are perfectly suited for these types of applications. The turbine’s advanced technology, power quality, and gearless design ensure quiet operation and ultimate reliability, making for easier integration into village landscapes, pastoral farm settings, or business campuses.
