Summary
We are expanding our engineering department and have an opportunity for a Web Developer. The position requires a well-rounded, experienced programmer with excellent communication skills who works well in a team environment. We seek a creative thinker with strong leadership qualities who is excited about working on cutting-edge, renewable energy technology. We are seeking a Web Developer to join the Software and Controls Engineering team to focus on the development of the software system used by our customers and our staff to monitor and control our wind turbine and power electronics products. This person will also work with other departments to develop new capabilities for our corporate web site for sharing information with our partners. We will consider a range of experience level for the qualified candidate.
Responsibilities
Position responsibilities may include any combination of the following, based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience:
- Develop and support SmartView Web Service, a web application for monitoring our wind turbine and power electronics products
- Convert the existing IIS/ASP application to Apache/PHP for deployment on a Linux server
- Comply with the latest XHTML and CSS standards and major browsers
- Determine the optimum technologies to balance excellent application performance with a rich user experience
- Create new ways to turn raw data into useful information for a variety of users including:
- Design and manufacturing engineers
- Field service technicians
- Executives
- Modify SmartView Web Service to accommodate next-generation SmartView RTU
- Use best practices to insure security of systems, applications and data
- Integrate SmartView Web Service with our corporate web site
- Support other departments to extend our corporate web site to include data sharing capabilities with our partners
- Adhere to software quality practices
- Work in multiple languages including:
- PHP
- XHTML/CSS
- ASP
- Java
- Flash ActionScript
- Develop for multiple platforms including
- Windows Server 2003
- Linux server
- Windows XP/VIsta, Mac and Linux clients
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Troubleshoot networking issues

- Provide commissioning assistance and sales and marketing support
- Plan and manage technical projects to scope and budget
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a computer-related area, or equivalent experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Ability to plan and execute technical design projects
- Experience with at least one of the above-listed languages
- Experience with at least one of the above-listed platforms
- Experience with secure web applications

- Theoretical and practical knowledge of power electronics design and application
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of system level modeling and controls of power converters and rotating machines
- Direct design experience with power converters in the 50kW to 3000kW power range
- Experience with modeling and designing magnetics
- Experience with modeling and designing permanent magnet generators
- Experience with distributed generation interconnect (IEEE1547)
- Experience with certification of power electronics (CE, UL1741, etc)
- Experience with power system modeling and coordination
- Experience with power quality and EMI design and testing (IEEE519)
- Experience with product reliability analysis and testing
- Experience with Matlab/Simulink, PSCAD, AutoCad, PSpice, Ansys, etc.
- Discipline to work within a quality system
- Ability to plan and execute technical design projects
- Ability to work in a team environment on a multiple of projects at the same time

Logistics Manager
Northern Power Systems designs and manufactures state of the art wind turbines for a rapidly growing marketplace. The primary product is a 100kW direct drive wind turbine, with a 2.2MW direct drive wind turbine in development.
The Logistics Manager establishes and coordinates activities involved with transporting goods such as raw materials, equipment, tools, supplies and finished goods associated with a specific product category. Wind turbine products are faced with a relentless need to drive cost of goods down with the development of strategic supply chain relationships to provide the lowest cost of energy to customers. The handling and associated cost of logistics of both inbound and outbound material represents a significant savings opportunity.
Responsibilities:

Develops and executes finished goods logistics arrangements that meet safety, scheduling and quality assurance requirements for the NW100
- Ensures conformance with international shipping, hazmat, customs and taxation law/requirements
- Coordinate direct to site (vendor to installation) of NW100 blades and tower
- Supports business development by analyzing logistical problems and producing new solutions.
- Coordinates packaging activities of the finished product to ensure conformance to order specific shipping requirements
- Creates shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to support outbound logistics
- Assists incoming shipping activities and inspections to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
- Arranges for purchase/rental and maintenance of forklift and other needed equipment
- Studies and standardizes procedures to improve quality.
- Analyzes and resolves operational problems
- Manages the process of continual research, development and implementation of solutions to improve processes that aid in promoting company profitability
- Knows and conforms to requirements and specifications for types of shipping used.
Required Qualifications:

Senior Buyer

The Senior Buyer/Supply Manager coordinates activities involved with procuring goods and services such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, and supplies associated with a specific product category. Wind turbine products are faced with a relentless need to drive cost of goods down with the development of strategic supply chain relationships to provide the lowest cost of energy to customers. These products and services are to be secured at cost quality, and delivery competitive levels consistent with performance standards. The position is further responsible for the timely planning and scheduling of receipt and inventory control of the products and services.
Responsibilities:

Lead the planning and execution of Northern Powers strategic sourcing efforts in support of the Northwind 100 wind turbine
- Lead the overall procurement activity and support for the Northwind 100 catalogue components
- Develop strategic sourcing strategies and execute agreements
- Develops and investigates sources of supply; issues requests for proposal when applicable.
- Review invoices to verify information before forwarding for approval

Required Qualifications:

- Experience in new product development.
- Experience with purchasing engineered technical components (specify exact requirement - i.e., electrical/mechanical/wire & cable etc.) to support a manufacturing operation.
- Experience with negotiating sub-contractor services (mechanical, electrical, structural)
- Experience working with Engineering / R&D during the development of new products.
- Demonstrated negotiating skills
- Demonstrated understanding of Vendor Managed Inventory Programs (VMI) (consignment & kanban)
- Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- ERP systems experience is preferred and APICS certification a plus.

Junior Buyer

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage cost, quality, quantity, and delivery of productswith suppliers to meet company operational objectives
- Prepares and issues purchase orders, change notices, and engineering change orders
- Negotiates with vendors for materials, supplies, equipment and services
- Establish short- and long-term purchase orders (contracts) that provide the best terms and least liabilities for products procured
- Coordinate first article inspections with suppliers to assist in determiningsuppliers' ability to meet product quality requirements
