EAST BURKE, VT, USA (October 26, 2011) – Reinforcing its commitment to provide skiers and riders with an authentic Vermont experience, Burke Mountain today celebrated a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new Northern Power 100 kW wind turbine at the summit of Burke Ski Mountain.
“The wind turbine marks a key addition in the long term sustainability plan for Burke Mountain” said Tim McGuire, VP & General Manager at Burke Mountain. “The turbine is anticipated to produce up to 300,000 kWh annually or approximately 15%-20% of existing annual power needs of the resort. It exemplifies Burke’s strong commitment to sensible operations while reducing the resort’s impacts on the environment.”
The wind turbine was designed and manufactured by Northern Power Systems and installed by Alteris Renewables; both Vermont based companies. Royal Electric from Woodsville, NH completed the electric work for the turbine and transmission line. Funding for the project was in partnership with the Vermont Economic Development Authority and the Clean Energy Development Fund. As well as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act 2009 administered by the Renewable Energy Resource Center, a project of the Vermont Energy Investment Corporation.
