President and Chief Operating Officer
Ciel Caldwell assumed leadership of Northern Power Systems as the President and Chief Operating Officer in August 2016 and is a member of the Board of Directors. Ms. Caldwell joined Northern Power Systems in February of 2011 as Vice President and Corporate Controller and was named Chief Financial Officer in February 2013. In May 2016, Ms. Caldwell was promoted to Senior Vice President for Operations and Finance. With over 20 years of experience in finance and accounting, Ms. Caldwell has held senior financial leadership positions at various companies in the high-tech sector including 3Com Corporation, Vistaprint, and Level 3 Communications. At the start of her career, Ms. Caldwell worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Ms. Caldwell earned her Bachelor of Science from Babson College with a major in Accounting.
Reinout G. Oussoren
Vice President Global Sales
Reinout Oussoren joined Northern Power Systems in September 2009. He brings more than 20 years of commercial and operational leadership experience to Northern Power from a variety of international organizations. In his most recent position, Mr. Oussoren was the Global Sales Leader for GE Energy’s Membrane Technologies business part of the General Electric Company (NYSE: GE). During previous roles at GE, he was responsible as Sales Leader and General Manager for GE Environmental Services in Europe, following the acquisition of BHA Group Holdings, Inc. He served as General Manager – Europe and member of the executive team since 1994 following the successful sale of his personal business, SF Air Filtration AG a leading supplier of filtration parts and components, to BHA Group. Mr. Oussoren has a mechanical engineering degree from MTS in the Netherlands, holds various international patents and completed coursework in strategic marketing and management.
Director North American Sales, Power Systems
Chris McKay joined Northern Power Systems in 2001 and has been involved in the energy industry for over 20 years. While at W.L. Gore & Associates worked on new product development of membranes for PEM fuel cells and hydrogen electrolysis using GORE-TEX® materials. During his time at Northern Power, he has led and participated in the development of power conversion, energy storage, microgrid, and wind turbine systems including Northern’s 100kW distributed wind turbine. He has served in a variety operational and commercial roles including director positions for both engineering and product management. Mr. McKay graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering with a Minor in Economics.
Director North American Sales, Distributed Wind
Alex Sarly joined Northern Power Systems in August 2016. Alex is a veteran renewable energy business development professional with over $150 MM in sales and 10 years’ industry experience leading sales teams in Commercial, Industrial, and Government. In his most recent position Mr. Sarly was the Director of Solar Project Development for Brightfields Development LLC where he directed the origination and development of new solar projects between 500 kW and 5 MW across the U.S. In similar roles at both SolarCity Corporation and Borrego Solar Systems Mr. Sarly earned Top Producer awards, leading national commercial teams in annual sales and/or MWs of projects closed and completed. Alex has earned a Master’s Degree in International Development from The American University in Washington, D.C. and a Bachelor’s in Geography/Urban Planning from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Business Development Manager
Gian Schelling joined Northern Power Systems in February 2015. His career in renewables started in 2007 with Vestas Wind Systems A/S. After heading the successful global market introduction of Vestas’ 3 MW wind platform, he led the C&I energy efficiency program for Swiss Utility BKW and the market introduction of large-scale PV inverters for SolarMax. At Northern Power Systems, he manages the global Business Development activities from market analysis and market entry strategies, local partner identification and contracting through to pilot project closure in new markets and segments. Mr. Schelling holds Master Degrees in International Management and International Affairs from CEMS and University of St. Gallen – Switzerland. He completed basic coursework in Electrical Engineering and obtained his Certificate of Advanced Studies in Energy Economics.
Director of Sales, Mediterranean
Vito Zongoli joined Northern Power Systems in January 2011. He brings along a proven commercial track record and solid technical understanding from previous roles with ABB and most recently Grundfos, a global leader in advanced pump solutions, where he established partnerships and go-to-market channels resulting in the successful implementation of more than 50 industrial size reverse osmosis plants in the oil & gas, mining and naval bases in EMEA and Australia. Together with an Italian industrial partner, he was the leading force within Grundfos Italy succeeding in winning a UN tender for the supply of containerized water treatment solutions powered by a combination of small wind generators and solar PV for remote off-grid locations. Mr. Zongoli has an Electronic Engineering degree from Politecnico di Milano and completed coursework in management, negotiation skills and project management.
Director, Technology Solutions
Austin Cate joined Northern Power Systems in 2004 and has been involved in the development of power conversion systems and multiple wind turbine platforms. He has contributed significantly to the electrical system designs of several generations of the 100 kW turbine platform. Mr. Cate has extensive field test and commissioning experience with NPS products around the world. His knowledge of system design played a major role in leading the cooperative development of a 3MW turbine platform with WEG prior to taking over the power systems team. Mr. Cate graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Vice President, FP&A and Marketing Analytics
Craig Giles joined Northern Power Systems in June 2006, bringing over 20 years of operational, platform management and product marketing experience from high- tech businesses. In August of 2010, Mr. Giles was promoted to Vice President of Global Services & Operations wherein he supported Northern Power Systems in the launch of the world’s most reliable 100kW wind turbine. Mr. Giles transitioned to Vice President FP&A, Strategic Planning in June 2015 to support Northern Power’s strategic operational and business planning initiatives. Prior to Northern Power Systems, Mr. Giles worked for Husky IMS for 8 years in various operational leadership positions. Mr. Giles holds a Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering from the SUNY, University of Buffalo.
Senior Director, Operations
Tom Hirschfeld joined Northern Power Systems in 2006 as a Production Technician. With a solid background in Operations and Quality Management systems, over the last decade, he has served in various management capacities in Manufacturing, Quality and Global Services within the Operations department. Prior to joining Northern Power Systems, Mr. Hirschfeld served as a Non-Commissioned Officer in the United States Marine Corps and was responsible for squadron level maintenance of numerous models of tilt wing aircraft for combat deployment. During this time, he was deployed for a period of two years in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, in which he managed maintenance activities for the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing.
Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer
Eric Larson joined Northern Power Systems in November 2014 as Vice President and Corporate Controller. With over 25 years of experience in finance and accounting, Mr. Larson has held financial leadership positions at various companies across a variety of sectors including CMGI, Biogen Idec, Aspect Software and Ernst & Young. Mr. Larson also received his CPA certification in Massachusetts.
Board Member and Corporate Development and Business Advisor to the Board
Troy Patton joined Northern Power Systems in April of 2009 as President of the Utility Wind business. During that time, he led Northern Power’s successful development of the NPS 2.3MW permanent magnet direct drive wind turbine. Mr. Patton was named Chief Executive Officer, April 2012 wherein he and the leadership team pursued an integrated utility and distributed wind strategy based on Northern’s proprietary PMDD technologies. In August 2016, with the Company re-aligning its leadership to focus its future on delivering business solutions for a range of distributed energy customers, Mr. Patton transitioned his role and remains on as Corporate Development and Business Advisor to the board. He continues to lead the Company in a successful conclusion of a transaction monetizing utility wind assets as well as actively creating and nurturing the partnerships needed to deliver value to a variety of stakeholders across the energy marketplace. Mr. Patton has more than 20 years of experience in the power generation industry. Prior to Northern Power, he was Senior Vice President of engineering and products at Vestas Wind Systems. Before that role, Mr. Patton served in numerous technical and leadership roles at General Electric’s (NYSE: GE) Gas Turbine and Wind Turbine businesses, and helped facilitate GE’s integration of Enron’s wind energy business in 2003. Earlier in his career, he served in the US Navy working in the nuclear power plants onboard as crew members of both a United States aircraft carrier and United States nuclear submarine. Mr. Patton has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace and Ocean Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Masters of Business Administration from Clemson University.
Sr. Technical Advisor
Jonathan Lynch joined Northern Power Systems in September 1980 and has taken an active role in all aspects of power system design including mechanical and electrical subsystems, and has a strong knowledge of high-reliability, hybrid power systems and distributed generation technology. He has directed numerous R&D programs funded by agencies such as National Renewable Energy Laboratory, National Science Foundation, and NASA. Prior to joining Northern Power, Mr. Lynch was employed as a design engineer at Carrier Corporation, modeling and designing high-performance refrigeration systems for transportation applications. Mr. Lynch graduated with honors from Stevens Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering degree.
