Engineering Technician

We are expanding our engineering department and have an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical technician. The position requires a disciplined technician who works well in a team environment. We seek motivated individuals who are interested in working on cutting edge renewable and power system technologies.

In this role you will configure, connect, test and maintain equipment in our Power Lab. This will include prototype testing, product improvement and feature validation, test fixture development, test equipment setup, test implementation, and data collection. You will work closely with our engineers on these efforts. This position will require an understanding of power systems and power electronics, as well as a disciplined approach to documentation and communications.


  • Setup high power equipment for testing in our Power Lab
  • Perform testing, including data collection and initial analysis
  • Maintain Power Lab testing area as a safe and effective work environment
  • Track and maintain necessary calibrations for test equipment
  • Support production test development as needed
  • Develop electrical documentation (schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules) for our products
  • Electrical component specification and selection
  • Provide commissioning and testing assistance for fielded systems
  • Test electrical equipment including wind turbines, generators and power converters
  • Troubleshoot issues in the laboratory and on the production floor
  • Manage bills of materials
  • Design control panels for tests, projects and products
  • Build prototype control panels and/or power converters

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar) and two years of experience with power systems and power electronic converters or five years of experience with power systems and power electronic converters
  • Hands on experience with connecting and operating high power equipment (100 kW-2MW)
  • Familiarity with the National Electric Code
  • Capability to use AutoCAD or similar to capture detailed electrical design information
  • Ability to work in a team environment on multiple projects at the same time
  • Ability to learn new concepts quickly
  • Good written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to read and modify electrical schematics
  • Ability to create and modify AutoCAD & Visio drawings
  • Knowledge of Excel spreadsheets
  • Control panel wiring experience
  • Ability to work independently on projects with limited guidance at times
  • Problem solving and creative thinking
  • Knowledge of Solidworks a plus
  • Test experience desirable
  • Ability to interpret electrical standards is beneficial

Preferred Requirements: 

  • Electrician’s license
  • Experience with product reliability analysis and testing
  • Experience with PLC software design and development
